10. How did the Quantum Reality crisis arise?

10. How did the Quantum Reality crisis arise?

To understand quantum theory, as opposed to merely using it, we must answer two questions: (1) What does the wave function really mean (so-called “interpretation problem”? (2) What happens during a quantum measurement (so-called “measurement problem”? The quantum reality crisis arises because physicists have no good answers for either of these questions.

The quantum interpretation is concerned with the nature of the unmeasured reality. Quantum facts (like Airy’s one-hole diffraction experiment, Brown’s stellar interferometer, photon polarization experiment, etc.) suggest that a quon acts like a particle when it is observed, but quantum theory represents an unmeasured quon by a particular wave shape between observations. Some physicists blame the quantum dilemma on the observer’s inevitable disturbance of what he measures, however each measurement does more than disturb and profoundly reshapes the very fabric of reality.
