What is the future of Genetic Medicine and Gene Therapy?

Unraveling the human genome and understanding how cells interpret the genetic code to synthesize the various proteins our bodies require to grow, develop and work properly, is leading to the development of new (gene) therapies and corresponding technologies in cases where the genetic information has been corrupted. At present, the most promising applications are in cancer, diabetes and heart disease. By identifying the different genes involved in these and other illnesses, we can devise new drugs and medical devices to target drug treatments accurately. What difficulties can you foresee along this path?
